Abstract

656,988. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 24, 1949, No. 1896. Convention date, Jan. 23, 1948. [Class 38 (ii)] An adjustable reluctance core for electromagnetic induction apparatus comprises two laminated parts having interfitting multiple tongue and groove joints with non-magnetic wrappers around alternate groups of laminations in each part providing non-magnetic gaps between the sides of the interfitting tongues and grooves in the joints and adjustable means for controlling the degree of closure of the joints. Each half 2, 3 of a magnetic core 1 has alternate groups of L-shaped laminations wrapped in non-magnetic material and the groups oriented to form tongue and groove ends in each half. The halves of the core together with the requisite clamping pieces 9, 10, 11 are then held together by hollow rivets 8, the clamping pieces being crimped to allow assembly and provided with elongated holes 17 to allow the area of contact of the tongues and grooves in the joints to be varied to adjust the core reluctance. The two halves are finally secured together by means of bolts 18, 19. The clamping piece 10 is provided with extensions having holes for mounting the apparatus.
