Abstract

639,978. Induction heating. SEULEN, G. W. June 18, 1948, No. 16421. [Class 39 (iii)] A split inductor comprises a fixed portion a permanently connected to a source of H.F. energy such as a transformer and a removable portion which may be selected from a number, to embrace closely a particular journal selected for heat treatment. In addition journals of different lengths may be treated, and any obstructions such as webs avoided by selecting the removable portion for appropriate length as well as diameter, while the length of the fixed portion is designed to correspond with that of the shortest journal to be treated. Spacing guide rollers K may be provided as shown. Various modifications are described in which the shape of the fixed portion and the removable portions is varied to suit particular requirements.
