469,383. Electric heating. DENNEEN, F. S., and DUNN, W. C. Oct. 29, 1936, No. 14891/37. Convention date, Dec. 14, 1935. Divided out of 29385 /36. [Class 39 (iii)] An inductor, for use in surface hardening by inductive heating followed by quenching consists of an annular element adapted to surround the article to be heated and having a tapering or diverging current-conducting section in an axial direction, the exterior surface of the element being of tapered or conical form in relation to the axis of the inductor. Figs. 1 and 2 show inductors 3 for heating a conical and double conical member 1 respectively. The inductor is surrounded by a jacket 5 forming a quenching chamber therewith. Apertures 4 are provided in the inductor.
