Abstract

576,791. Heating by electromagnetic induction. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. March 31, 1944, No. 6005. Convention date, April 5, 1943. [Class 39 (iii)] A single turn inductor element 1, for the heating of work pieces having large-area peripheral re-entrant portions, such as a gear wheel 3, by inducing therein high frequency circumferential heating currents of the order of 5-15 megacycles per second, is formed of flattened tubing and conforms circumferentially to, and is axially coextensive with, the surfaces to be heated. The heating may be sufficiently rapid to afford selfquenching. In a modification, the inductot element is formed for heating a segment only of the gear wheel. Specification 472,198 is referred to.
