Abstract
In reclaiming rubber, metal parts such as the metal wires in the rims of tyre covers are removed by applying heat to the contact surfaces until the rubber is softened and the metal can be pulled away. Heat may be applied by passing an electric current through the wire, or by causing the wire to form the secondary of an electric transformer or revolving the tyre in a magnetic field or by bringing the tyre into a high-potential, high-frequency, oscillating field so that the rubber is heated by dielectric losses.
