Abstract

846,724. Induction heating moulding machines. HARKENRIDER, R. J. Feb. 13, 1957 [Feb. 14, 1956], No. 4912/57. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XI] An injection moulding or extrusion apparatus comprises a metallic outer shell 10 and inner core 13 (torpedo or screw) defining together an annular heating chamber and a low-frequency current carrying coil 20 encircling the shell 10 in the region of the core 13 to induce heat simultaneously in shell and core, the material of the core being magnetic and the material of the shell being substantially non-magnetic. The metallic material may be cold rolled steel, stainless steel "Hortelloy" B (Registered Trade Mark), "Ampes" (Registered Trade Mark) or aluminium. A table of temperatures obtained is given. A supplementary coil 23 may be provided and the frequency of the electrical current may be 60 e.p.s.
