Abstract

934,601. Induction heating units. BEANWY ELECTRIC Ltd. Sept. 4, 1959 [June 4, 1958], No. 17779/58. Class 39 (3). An electric induction heating unit for surrounding a metal cylinder 6, e.g. in an extrusion or injection moulding machine, containing a substance to be heated, comprises an annular magnetizable casing formed from two or more members 1 and 2 joined by lugs 5 and supporting at least two diametrically opposed polepieces 3 provided with inductor windings 4, the polepieces 3 being in firm contact with the cylinder 6. Inlet and outlet means 8 and 11 or 9, respectively, are provided for the passage of air or other cooling fluid through the casing. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown) the lugs 5 extend inwardly from the casing to abut the cylinder 6 and are provided with ports to allow the cooling fluid to pass from one half of the casing to the other.
