Abstract
853,938. Heat treating alloys. CASNER PATENTS Inc. May 1, 1959 [May 15, 1958], No. 14950/59. Classes 72 and 82(1) [Also in Group XXXV] The rotor ring of a hysteresis motor is former with alternate zones 16a, 16b and 16c, 16d of low and high coercivity respectively (see Group XXXV) by electrically heating one sector at a time while the rest of the ring is kept cool by a water bath 30. Heating current, measured at 38, is fed from transformers 35, 36 to clamps 32, 33 secured to the ring, and the resultant temperature is indicated by a thermocouple 39 and meter 40. The exposed sector is preferably heat insulated by a refractory cement. The untreated ring is first quenched at 1740‹-1750‹ F. and then drawn at 200‹-300‹F. to produce a relatively high coercivity. Then two opposite 90 degree sectors 31a are drawn at 500‹-1200‹F. to produce the low coercivity zones 16a, 16b. Rotor alloy composition: cobalt 18.5%; chromium 3.75%; tungsten 5.0%; carbon 0.75%; iron balance. Specification 629,897 is referred to.
