Abstract
835,278. Heating by induction. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Nov. 27, 1957 [Dec. 7, 1956], No. 37553/56. Class 39(3) The rate of heating of a part only of a metal object being heated by induction is reduced by providing an electically conductive ring around the work coil in which the object is being heated; the ring may be made from copper tubing. In Fig. 1, a metal ring 1 is maintained around a work coil 2 and may be formed in two parts for easy removal from the coil. In Fig. 2, apparatus for heating long metal bars comprises work coils 1 connected in parallel by hollow bus-bars 5, 6 and rings 7 surrounding the coils are connected by rubber tubes 12. Cooling water flows through the bus-bars, the coils and the rings. A high frequency supply of 1600 volts r.m.s. at a frequency of 1 megacycle is specified. According to the Provisional Specification, an electrically conductive mass disposed adjacent an induction heating element may be arranged for movement along the length of the element.
