Abstract

The apparatus of the parent Specification for crucible-free zone melting of a rod of semi-conductor material is so arranged that the innermost turn of the heating coil is at the same electrical potential, e.g. earth potential, as the semi-conductor rod to prevent detached crystal spangles which form on the heating coil from flying into the molten zone.
