Abstract

A method of heat treating silicon iron alloys as claimed in the parent Specification comprises preceding the final heat treatment by an additional heat treatment, the temperature and duration of which result in substantially complete (i.e. more than 90% complete) primary recrystalization with substantially no (i.e. less than 10%) secondary recrystallization with cubic texture. The additional treatment may consist in heating the cold rolled alloy to a temperature between 500 DEG C and 800 DEG C for at least 10 minutes in an atmosphere which may be non-oxidizing or gently oxidizing or may contain hydrogen. The alloy may be cooled between the additional treatment and the final treatment or may proceed directly from the additional treatment to the final treatment without cooling.
