Abstract

Grain oriented silicon steel with 2-4% silicon and 0.01-0.04% aluminium is hot rolled, pickled, cold rolled to final gauge in a single step with a reduction of 65-85%, strand annealed for a short period at 750-950 DEG C. and finally box annealed at 1000-1200 DEG C. Prior to pickling the steel may be decarburized by box annealing at 700-1000 DEG C. with mill scale thereon, or the above mentioned strand anneal may be carried out in a decarburizing atmosphere containing over 10% hydrogen, and water vapour at the rate of 0.1-0.5 volume by volume of hydrogen.
