Abstract

Silicon steel with (110) [001] orientation is produced by adding 0.001-0.100% by weight selenium to molten steel containing 2-4% by weight silicon for casting an ingot, and treating the ingot by hot rolling followed by cold rolling and finally annealing the ingot at a temperature of at least 1000 DEG C., preferably in a reducing atmosphere, e.g. of hydrogen, to remove part of the selenium. The selenium may be added as the element and/or ferroselenium. Specifications 702,598, 851,066, U.S.A. Specifications 1,965,559 and 2,802,761 are referred to.
