Abstract

Non-oriented silicon-iron sheets are produced by first hot-rolling a material containing in percentage by weight .Al.0.5-1.5 .Si.1.5-3.5 the balance being iron and unavoidable impurities and the sum of the Al and Si contents lying within the range 2.5-4.5%. The hot-rolled sheets are then cold-rolled one or more times with a reduction rate of 50-85% and finally annealed at 1000 DEG -1100 DEG C. for 5-40 hours. When more than one coldrolling step is employed, the sheet is intermediately annealed at 750 DEG -950 DEG C. for 3 minutes to 1 hour in a reactive, i.e. decarburizing, or a neutral atmosphere. The alloy may be initially prepared by melting under argon in a high frequency furnace, followed by holding under vacuum; hot rolling may commence at 1150 DEG -1250 DEG C. and finish at 850 DEG -950 DEG C.
