Abstract
A method of heat treating a magnetic alloy consisting of 14-17.5% aluminium and the balance iron comprises annealing the alloy at over 1100 DEG C. in a protective atmosphere such as any hydrogen, cooling the alloy to a temperature above that at occurs, and then quenching to room temperature. This quenching may be into water from a temperature depending on the constitution of the alloy but is generally between 550 DEG C. and 750 DEG C. The alloy treated by the process is stated to have low coercive force and high maximum permeability.
