Abstract
In a method of working cold workable-precipitation hardenable beryllium copper alloys to enable them to be repeatedly cold-worked and recrystallized by heating to 750 DEG to 1040 DEG F., the solution annealed cold-worked alloy is heat treated at 750 DEG to 1060 DEG F. for at least two hours and cooled slowly to atmospheric temperature. A wire of 0.250 inches diameter of the solution annealed alloy may be cold-reduced to a 20-50 per cent, preferably 40-50 per cent reduction in area, annealed at 1000 DEG F. and cooled slowly to atmospheric temperature. It may then be surface cleaned, cold-drawn and annealed repeatedly until the diameter is reduced to .016 inches finishing with an anneal. Suitable alloys are binary beryllium-copper alloys containing 1 to 2.4 per cent beryllium with or without 0.1 per cent to 0.5 per cent of at least one of the metals iron, nickel or cobalt and up to 0.1 per cent of silicon. U.S.A. Specification 2,266,056 is referred to.
