Abstract
In a method of hardening an alloy by the indiffusion of a non-metal at elevated temperatures the alloy is in the monocrystalline state during the hardening. An alloy of silver with 0.3 per cent of magnesium in the form of a monocrystalline rod may be hardened by heating in air for 27 hours at 800 DEG C and may afterwards be deformed, e.g. by rolling. Hardening may be obtained by heating in air, nitrogen or ammonia, and alloys of copper and beryllium or iron and aluminium may also be so hardened. Annealing after deformation does not affect the hardness. Specification 654,962 is referred to.
