Abstract

A zinc base die-casting alloy has the following composition: Al 2-4.5 per cent, Be 0.05-0.5 per cent, Zn, together with impurities, the balance. The alloy may contain, as impurities, up to 0.075 per cent Fe, up to 0.003 per cent Pb, up to 0.003 per cent Cd and up to 0.001 per cent Sn. The alloy may be hardened by heating for two hours at 370 DEG C quenching in water and ageing by increasing the temperature by steps of 25 DEG C from 75 DEG C to 300 DEG C or from 100 DEG C to 300 DEG C. Ageing may also be carried out for four hours at 75 DEG C or 225 DEG C. After ageing the alloy may be cold worked to reduce its cross-section by up to 50 per cent.
