Abstract
An alloy particularly suitable for colour-anodizing has the following percentage composition in:- .Si.0.06 - 0.15 .Fe.0.45 - 0.65 .Cu.0.03 - 0.1 .Mn.not more than 0.07 .Mg.0.7 - 0.9 .Cr.0.05 - 0.1 .Zn.not more than 0.25 .Impurities.not more than 0.15 .Al.the balance Ingots of the alloy are homogenized, e.g. at 1100-1150 DEG F., and then cooled to below 950 DEG F. at an average rate of cooling of 30 DEG F. /hour or slower; they may then be cooled to room temperature at any rate. After reheating to a temperature below 950 DEG F. they are rolled.
