Abstract
A method of producing an aluminum alloy ingot for obtaining extrusions of high specular reflectivity and homogeneity, which comprises forming a molten alloy containing from 0.3 to 1.2% Mg, from 0.2 to 1.2 % Si, up to 0.4% Cu and up to 0.1% of each of the elements Zn and Mn, and Sr and/or Ca in a total amount of 0.01 to 0.5%, also including the alloy of 0.05 to 0.3% of Fe as impurity and up to 0.15% in total (0.05% of each) of other impurities, transforming said alloy into ingots by the continuous casting process with direct sudden cooling, heating said ingots to 500-580ºC for a period sufficient to dissolve the content of Mg and Si, and rapidly cool the heated ingot to block Mg and Si in an essentially solid solution.
