Abstract

Flints are extruded from an alloy having a composition within the following range:- .Fe.4-40% .Ni.0,1-20% .Ce.or mischmetal, the remainder The alloy may also contain up to a total of 8% of one or more of Mg, Al, Sn, Cu, Zn, Cd, Sb, Mn or Bi. The pyrophoric properties of the flints may be improved by annealing the extruded rods at 550 DEG C. for 3 hours or by cooling the ingot at a controlled rate (see Group XXII) prior to extrusion.
