Abstract

Flints produced by extrusion are made of a cerium mischmetal-zinc alloy having the following composition in percentages by weight: Zn 5-25, cerium mischmetal the balance. The alloy may also contain Cu, Cd, Sb, Bi and Mn in a total quantity of 0.5 to 8 per cent and from 0.5 to 5 per cent of Mg. The molten alloy is poured at between 100 DEG C. and 500 DEG C. into a chilled mould and, after cooling, the billets are extruded at 380 DEG C. to 400 DEG C. using a pressure of 4100 to 4800 kg/cm2.
