Abstract

Copper and copper alloys are hardened by subjecting them to a temperature between that of liquid air and -180 DEG C. An article, e.g. a traveller ring for wet spinning, formed of a copper alloy, may, after formation, be treated with liquid air either by pouring the liquid air over it or by dipping it into liquid air.
