Abstract
A method of heat-treating precipitation alloys of the kind described in Specifications 616,207, 669,131 and 669,579 and the alloy comprising 0.21 per cent carbon, 0.82 per cent silicon, 1.07 per cent manganese, 14.20 per cent chromium, 9.65 per cent nickel, 2.05 per cent molybdenum, 2.65 per cent copper, 0.79 per cent titanium and the balance iron, comprises subjecting the alloys, at any temperature up to 800 DEG C., to 5-40 per cent plastic deformation after solution treatment and before precipitation hardening. The solution treatment may be at 1200-1250 DEG C. and the precipitation hardening at 700-750 DEG C. for 4-16 hours. The treatment is stated to improve the creep resistance of the metal. Specification 649,034 also is referred to.
