Abstract
In a process for heat treating a metal or alloy, the metal or alloy is embedded in borings or turnings containing 0.02-0.5 per cent. Mg as an alloying element. The process is particularly applicable to the heat treatment of Ni or Ni-rich alloys. In the case of a steel containing 8.5 per cent. Ni the heat treatment was for 1 hr. at 840 DEG C. and in the case of certain nickel alloys 16 hrs. at 1,000 DEG C.
