Abstract

654,542. Smallarms. MARLIN FIREARMS CO. Aug. 6, 1948, No. 20797. Convention date, Aug. 6, 1947. [Class 119] The reciprocating breech-bolt of a firearm has a longitudinal socket adapted to receive a resilient element associated with a cocking handle, the arrangement being such that the resilient element bears against the handle to hold abutment means on the handle in juxtaposition to abutment means on the breech-bolt. In the construction shown in Figs. 5 and 9 the handle 62 consists of a U-section rear part 65, and a front part 63 terminating in a finger grip 64. The two parts meet at a shoulder 66 which, when the handle is in position in a groove 68 of the breechbolt, abuts against a corresponding shoulder 70 in the groove. The handle is secured in place by a resilient pin 72 which fits into a hole 73 in the breechbolt 35, 36, and presses resiliently against an upwardly extending portion 67 in the groove of the part 65. The breech-bolt is fitted with an extractor held in place by a circular split band 57, with a firing pin 50, and spring-controlled striker member 40, and moves under the action of a spring 39. In the modification shown in Fig. 12 the flexible handle 75 has a rear end portion 79 which snugly fits in an aperture 84 in the breech-bolt and, near the finger grip 81 has a pin 80 which engages in a hole 83 of the breech-bolt.
