Abstract

805,533. Rifles. JUREK, M. K. Nov. 14, 1955 [Aug. 14, 1954], No. 23700/54. Class 119 Relates to a bolt action rifle in which the bolt 3, Fig. 3, is operated by a toggle having one lever arm 4 pivoted at 7 to the breech body 2 and provided with a handle 9, the other lever arm 5 being pivotally connected at 8 to the bolt 3. According to the invention, a spring loaded catch is brought into engagement with the lever arm 4 when the toggle is straightened and is released by a sliding displacement of the handle 9 relative to the arm 4. In one form, Fig. 4, the handle 9 is spring - urged forwardly in guide grooves in the arm 4 and is provided at its forward end with a catch 16 which snaps behind a lug 17 on the arm 5 when the toggle is straightened. At the same time, an arcuate lug 19, Fig. 3, on the arm 4 engages a complementary groove 20 in the breech body 2. In another form, Figs. 6 and 7, a spring-loaded plunger 22 is provided in a bore in the breech body and has a nose 25 which snap engages a shoulder 26 on the underside of the arm 4 when the toggle is straightened. On sliding the handle 9 rearwardly relative to the arm 4, an incline 27 on the handle 9 depresses the plunger 22 to permit release of the toggle.
