Abstract
586,495. Smallarms. BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO., Ltd., and PERRY, C. A. Oct. 31, 1944, No. 21206. [Class 119] - The barrel of a rifle is detachably held upon the body of the rifle by a latch or stirrup which fits into a groove formed in the end of the barrel. The breech end of the barrel 1 (Fig. 1) has a groove 5, a shoulder 9 and a flat portion 15. To put the barrel into position it is slid within a casing 17 until the flat portion 15 lies in contact with a transverse pin 33 and the shoulder 9 abuts against the end of the casing. It is then locked by the latch 19 (Fig. 3), hinged at 21 to the casing 17. A leaf spring 27 bears against the faces 23 and 25 of the latch and serves to retain it in either the operative position or the inoperative position.
