Abstract

612,182. Automatic firearms. LIPPERT, H. May 16, 1946, No. 14876. Convention date, April 21, 1945. [Class 92 (ii)] An automatic firearm with a one-piece breech-block has an energy accumulator which is stressed by the forwardly moving breech - block and which, as soon as the breech block has reached its. forward end position, brings a breech-block locking member into looking position. In Figs. 1 and 3, the barrel 2 and breech casing 1 are secured together and can move rearwards on slides on the cradle 3 against the action of a spring 4. The breechblock 5 is under the action of a spring 6 and carries a round bolt 9 whose ends 10 are flattened to slide in slots 11 of the casing 1. As the bolt approaches its forward position a roller 14 on the arm 13 of bolt 9 engages a member 7 slidably mounted on the cradle 3. A spring 8 is thus compressed and tends to rotate the bolt. When the bolt reaches its closed position its ends 10 clear the slot 11, and spring 8 then rotates the bolt to a locking position in which the ends 10 bear against rounded surfaces 12 at the ends of the slots. On recoil the roller will strike the edge of a recess in the member 7 and the bolt will return to the position shown. Recesses 15, 16, Fig. 8, formed in the bolt coact respectively with the firing pin 17, and a spring-controlled detent 22. As the breech-block approaches its forward position and the bolt is rotated by member 7; an edge of the groove 15 is first moved from its position, locking the the firing-pin as shown, and then an edge of groove 16 depresses the detent 22 to release the firing-pin. In a modification the bolt 9 has an additional arm which moves to locking engagement with the breech casing when the bolt is rotated. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also a construction in which the member 7 is carried by the barrel, its spring 8 being compressed when the barrel recoils and being held compressed by a catch which is released by the breech-block when the latter reaches its closed position. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
