Abstract
630,640. Sporting guns. LAMBERT, M. M. V. June 13, 1947, Nos. 15677 and 15678. Convention dates, June 21, 1946 and March 4, 1947. [Class 119] A double-barrelled sporting gun of the swinging barrel type has its barrels C1, C2 jointedly connected and pivotally mounted by a trunnion 4, 5 extending into the space between them in the neighbourhood of the cartridge chamber on a plate 9, the plate being slidably mounted on a breech member 17 fast with the stock 8. The plate has its movements controlled by a bolt 18. In the construction shown the barrels are pivotally connected together at their muzzle ends and are normally held together by a pin and slot device midway of their lengths. A boss 5 of one barrel C1 fits into a hole 10 in the plate 9, and a boss 4 of the other barrel fits into the boss 5. The plate has recesses 11, 12, forming limbs 26<SP>1</SP> which fit slidingly into longitudinal grooves 26 formed on the sides of the breech member 17 which is fitted to the stock 8. This member has recesses 23 on its front face for receiving the rear ends of the barrels when the plate is in its rearmost position, as shown. In this position the plate is locked by the face 27 of a vertically slidable bolt 18 actuated by a thumbpiece 22. When thumb-piece 22 is actuated the bolt is lowered, thus moving the plate and barrels forwards until the barrel ends are free from the recesses 23. The barrels are now pivoted about the bosses 4, 5 and during such movement a cam groove 14 in a plate 13 which slides in the recess 11 operates members to eject the cartridge cases, and a second groove 15 by engaging a projection on one barrel causes the plate to move to the rear; whereupon pins 16 serve to cock the firing hammers. The triggers 21 are located in a recess in the stock, the latter being apertured as shown to enable the triggers to be actuated.
