Abstract

626,502. Automatic firearms. LIPPERT, H. Nov. 7, 1946, No. 33182. Convention date, Nov. 7, 1945. Addition to 612,182. [Class 92 (ii)] The invention of the parent Specification is now modified by forming the energy accumulator in two parts and by fitting the breechblock locking member 7 in a seating 8 of the breech-casing 2. The mechanism shown in Fig. 2 is duplicated, one on each side of the breech-block 4, each mechanism consisting of relatively movable parts 10, 11, both acted on by a spring.J.2. As the breech-block approaches its closed position each of its two ribs 4a strikes a lever 15 whose lower end engages in the part 11 thus moving part 11 and a rod 22 thereon to the rear, and also compressing the spring 12. A projection 11a on the rod 22 is thus moved clear of the locking member 7, which it was formerly holding down as shown, and when the part 10 is then moved to the rear by the part 11 a surface 7a on the latter causes the member 7 to rise into locking engagement with a surface 4b on the breech-block. The part 10 is then moved by the part 11 underneath the locking member 7 to support it in the locked position. On a shot being fired, a gas-driven rod 20 rotates a lever 19 whose upper end engages in a socket of the part 10. The support for the member 7 is thus removed and as the coacting surfaces of this member and the breech-block are selfunlocking, the breech-block is driven rearwards. Also, under the action of the spring 12, the part 11, the rod 22 and the lever 13 return to their original positions. In a modification Figs. 7-11 (not shown), the lever 19 is replaced by one which is pivoted on the breech-casing and which is rotated by striking against a projection on the gun cradle.
