Abstract

532,129. Automatic firearms. CESKOSLOVENSKA ZBROJOVKA AKCIOVA SPOLECNOST. BRNO. July 13, 1939, No. 20483. Convention date, July 13, 1938. [Class 92 (ii)] An automatic firearm in which the breechblock is locked and unlocked by the movements of a breech-block carrier is provided with a buffer between the breech-block and the breechblock carrier, this buffer absorbing energy during recoil and applying this energy to accelerate the forward movement of the breech-block carrier after the breech-block has reached the locking position. The buffer may consist of two symmetrically-disposed springs 17 mounted on rods 18 which have curved heads 19 seating in recesses in the rear part of the breech-block 5, and which are guided in eyes in a lug 20 on the breech-block carrier 3, against which lug the springs 17 abut. The breech-block carrier, on actuation by the gas-piston 4, compresses the springs 17 and after the passage of a projection 9 on the carrier from the locking-position shown in Fig. 1, beneath the breech-block, a part 8 on the carrier tilts the breech-block downwardly so that its end face is caught by the shoulder 25 at the front of the projection 9, Fig. 2. On the toward movement of the breech-mechanism under the influence of the recoil spring 15, guides 13 on the breech-block engage studs 14 on the breech casing, whereupon the breech-block is raised into the closed position, thus allowing the springs 17 to accelerate the final forward movement of the breech-block. carrier, during which movement the part 8 strikes the firing pin 21. According to a modification the breech-block is formed as a rotary cylinder with forward locking-lugs, and is rotated and moved rearwardly by a strikerpost on the carrier which passes through a curved slot in the wall of the breech-block. The buffer in this modification consists of a spring mounted on the rear end of the breech-block between a collar thereon and the rear face of a shoulder on the breech-block carrier.
