Abstract
538,344. Automatic guns. CESKOSLOVENSKA ZBROJOVKA AKCIOVA SPOLECNOST BRNO. Dec. 8, 1939, No. 31830. Convention date, Oct. 21, 1938. [Class 119] The breech-closing spring 12 of a gun in which the breech bolt 14 is locked and unlocked by the sliding movements of the bolt carrier 5 controls the return movement of the carrier only during the initial stage, the breech closing by momentum and the block being locked by the pressure exerted on the carrier by the firing pin retraction spring 20 stressed during recoil. The invention is shown applied to a gun having a gasoperated carrier slide 5 for a tilting breech bolt 4, the slide carrying a pin 17<SP>1</SP> for engagement with a cam groove 15 in the bolt for tilting the bolt into and out of engagement with the fixed locking abutment 19. On discharge, the carrier 5 compresses the retraction spring 20 and unlocks the bolt, the projection 13 on the carrier compressing the return spring 12 which reacts to impel the carrier forwards until it is retrained by the sear 29. The carrier completes its forward movement by momentum and by the reaction of the spring 20 which actuates the carrier to effect locking movement of the breech block. The release of the sear by the trigger 30 then enables the return spring 12 to act on the hammer 11 to fire the gun.
