507,861. Automatic firearms. STEYRDAIMLER-PUCH AKT.-GES., and DlCHTL, E. Jan. 13, 1938, No. 1157. [Classes 92 (ii) and 119] An automatic or semi-automatic gun has the firing pin 3 coupled to a striker 4 which is actuated bv a gas piston 7, against the pressure of a return-spring 6; Locking bolts 8 are adapted to be displaced in a transverse direction as controlled by cam surfaces 15, 12. When the guri is fired, the striker 4 moves rearwardly, under the influence of the gas plunger 7, for a short distance, the surface 9 on the striker maintaining the bolts 8 in such position that they lock the breech block 2 to the breech casing 1. When the recesses 13 in the striker reach the plane of the bolts, the reaction at 12 snaps the bolts into the recesses 13 whereby the striker is locked to the breech block; but the breech block is released from the casing 1. The breech block and striker then move together until, at the end of the return movement under the influence of the spring 6, the bolts snap into the recesses in the casing 1 to lock the breech block and release the striker, which thereupon continues to move forward alone, to fire the fresh cartridge.
