Abstract
451,069. Automatic guns. BROWNING CO., J. M. & M. S., 1st National Bank Building, Ogden, Utah, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Browning, M. A.) Oct. 24, 1934, No. 28602/35. Convention date, Feb. 19, 1934. Divided out of 450,234. [Class 92 (ii)] An automatic gun in which a spring-controlled firing pin on the breech block is cocked by a projection on the operating slide when this moves rearwardly relatively to the breech block has the firing pin held by a sear on the breech block which is automatically released by a formation on the slide as this completes its return after closing and locking the breech, a second manually-operated sear being provided on the gun casing for holding the slide in its rear position. The invention is shown applied to a gas operated gun in which the breechoperating slide 27 forms a rearward extension of the gas piston rod 28. The slide is shown connected to the breech block 49 by links 51 and a rocking locking-block 50 as described in Specifications 133,379 and 133,552, [both in Class 119]. During opening of the breech, a surface 85 on the slide cocks the firing pin 80 into engagement with a sear 82 pivoted on the breech block and the breech is held, in the open position-shown, by a hand sear 88 engaging the slide and controlled by a trigger 90 on the handle block. When this trigger is pressed, the parts move forwardly under the action of the return spring 32 and, after the closing and locking of the breech, a surface 87 on the slide engages the sear 82 to release the firing pin. The gun then fires automatically until pressure on the trigger 90 is relaxed. Other details of the gun shown are described in Specification 450,234.
