Abstract

491,912. Automatic guns. CESKOSLOVENSKA ZBROJOVKA AKCIOVA SPOLECNOST, BRNO. Feb. 7, 1938, No. 3770. Convention date, Feb. 12, 1937. [Classes 92 (ii) and 119] An automatic firearm having a recoiling barrel and a device for cocking the barrel prior to firing, has the barrelcocking means connected to a closure for the casing of the breech mechanism in such manner that whilst normal recoil movements of the barrel are not transmitted to the closure when in its closed position, the barrel is adapted to be cocked by movement of the closure to the open position. The invention is described as applied to a firearm having a barrel 2 and barrel-extension 3, with a tilting breech-block 4 controlled by a gas-operated member 5 which is guided on a fixed rod 7 surrounded by the recoil spring 6. The barrel-extension is hinged at 21 to a cylinder 22 in which works a piston 24 against the opposition of a spring 28, the piston-rod 25 being pivoted about midway between the ends of a cover 10 which is hinged at 12 and has a handle and spring lip 13 adapted to engage a catch 14 on the casing. The cylinder 22 has stops 23 so that when the cover is opened, the barrel is drawn back and cocked by a spring-pressed member 30, through which passes the gas operated member 5. The breechblock is cocked independently by means not shown and is held in cocked position by a sear 8. On actuation of the sear 8 by the trigger mechanism, the member 5 moves forward under the influence of the recoil-spring to close the breech and fire the. gun, an abutment 5<1> on the member 5 actuating the member 30 to release the barrel at such an instant that the barrel is moving forward when discharge takes place. The back-sight 43 is pivoted in the cover and has a toe by which it is held either vertically or folded along the cover by the resilient pressure of the end of the piston-rod 25.
