Abstract
604,348. Automatic small arms. REISING, E. G. Jan. 27, 1943, No. 1391. [Class 119] Relates to fixed barrel automatic guns of the blow-back type having a breech block 16 connected to a spring-pressed action slide bar 27 and a spring-pressed hammer 38 retained by a sear 42 for striking the firing-pin 18. According to the invention, the trigger mechanism is arranged for single-shot, continuous fire or safety conditions as follows. For singleshot fire, the trigger 50 operates the sear 42 through a trigger-bar 48 which is released from the sear by the rearward movement of the head 26 of the action bar to allow the sear to reengage the hammer bent. For continuous fire, a lever 59 pivoted to the sear is releasably connected with the head 26 of the action bar by hook 62 for actuation by the bar to release the sear at the end of each forward stroke of the bar. A manuallyoperable change fire slide 73 is adjustable to the position shown in Fig. 2 for single-shot fire and to the position shown in Fig. 8 for continuous fire. In a third safety position the slide 73 engages a member 68 on lever 59 and a recess 66 in bar 48 to prevent fire. In the form shown, the gun has a tilting breech-block 16, the upper part of which, when the breech is closed, is received in a recess 21 in the top wall of the receiver 12 and is rearwardly supported by an inclined abutment 22 which momentarily delays the opening of the breech. The mainspring 28 bears forwardly upon the front end 29 of an action-slide 27, the sides of which are joined at the rear end by a cross-head 26 having an upwardly-directed inclined lug 25. The front incline of the lug is pressed by spring 28 against the front wall 24 of a recess 23 in the breech-block and supports the block in the closed position, as shown. The gun has a spring-pressed hammer 38 which slides in the hollow 17 of the receiver. An axial hole 39 in the hammer registers with the end of the firing-pin 18 when the breech-block is depressed, so that the hammer can make operative contact with the firing-pin only when the block is lifted and the firing-pin mis-aligned with the hole 39. The sear 42, pivoted at 43, is operated by a shoulder 47 on a trigger-bar 48 pivoted at 49 to the trigger 50. The front end 51 of the bar is inclined so that when, on firing, the action-slide cross-head 26 is carried rearwards by the depressed and blown-back breech-block it will engage the incline and depress the bar to disengage the sear so that it may return to cocking position. The action-slide has a finger-piece 31 whereby the initial opening of the breech may be effected. Automatic firing may be effected by a lever 59 pivoted at 60 on the sear. A hook 62 on the front end of the lever can engage in a bent 63 in the cross-head when pressed upwardly by a spring 61 when the pulling of the trigger removes a pin 64 from beneath the rear end of the lever. When, therefore, the trigger is pulled and held, the gun is fired and on the forward movement of the action-slide the bent 63 makes contact with the hook 62, pulls the lever forwards, and operates the sear 42.
