Abstract

461,961. Automatic firearms. JACKSON, L. MELLERSH-. (Mauser-Werke Akt.-Ges.) Aug. 20, 1935, No. 23400. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Feb. 21, 1936.] [Class 119] Relates to automatic pistols or like firearms having a cock 37, a spring sear 59 therefor, a trigger 14, and a connecting rod 22 extending from the trigger to co-operate with the cock and sear. According to the invention, the connecting rod has a lifting cam 55 adapted to co-operate with an intermediate member such as a vertical slide 50, Fig. 1, the upper end of which bears under the breech-block 40, so that the firing mechanism cannot operate unless the breech is closed, when a recess 52 in the breech-block allows the slide 50 to rise, thereby permitting the action of the connecting rod as follows. During the first part of the pull of the trigger, a lateral projection 57 at the rear end of the connecting rod is in engagement with a lug 58 on the cock, and the cock is thereby cocked and engaged by the sear 69 ; and during the further pull of the trigger, the cam 55 comes against the bottom of the slide 50, causing the connecting rod to be depressed and its projection 57 to fall below the lug 58, whereupon a shoulder 68 on the connecting rod bears on a lug 60 on the sear and the sear releases the cocked cock. When the breech is not closed, the cock cannot be cocked because the recess 52 in the breech-block is not in line with the slide 50 and this depresses the connecting rod 22 and disengages it from the lugs of the cock and sear. In addition, a twoarmed lever 81, 82, Fig. 6, may be pivoted at 79 and provided near its pivot with a wedgeshaped projection 83 against which the magazine 85 bears when fully inserted to render the lever inoperative. If the magazine is not fully home, a spring 80 rocks the lever to bring a hook 87 thereon into engagement with a lug 88 on the connecting rod 22 to prevent its operation, and at the same time the rear end 91 of the lever engages a shoulder 94 in a recess 95 in the breech block 40 and retains this in the open position. The wedgeshaped projection 83 also acts as a cartridge ejector. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the subjectmatter of Specifications 453,020, 455,395, and 457,943, and in addition describes a modified construction of the device for putting the firing-mechanism out of action when the magazine is removed. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
