Abstract

151,196. Whiting, W. J. Jan. 21, 1920. to automatic pistols of the kind in which the barrel and breech-slide are detachably mounted on the breech-frame and are normally secured by a spring trigger-guard or other fastening, disengagement of which allows the barrel and slide to be slid forwardly off the frame. According to the invention, a magazine-controlled member is provided having the double function of (1) preventing the barrel and breech-slide from being disassembled when the magazine is in position, and (2) disorganizing the firing mechanism when the magazine is removed. In the construction shown, a member i, shown detached in Fig. 7, is pivoted in a recess behind the magazine, and has a stop shoulder m and an arm i<3> projecting over the sear-actuating link d. When the magazine is in postion, it engages a lateral projection i<4> on the member i thereby holding this member with the shoulder m raised into a position to engage a shoulder on the breech-slide and with the arm i<3> just touching the link d. When the magazine is removed, the member i is pressed forwards by a spring i<1> so that the shoulder m is disengaged from the breech-slide and the arm i<3> lowers the link d out of engagement with the sear b.
