Machine guns; cartridge magazines.-The reciprotating breech-bolt carrier 1 is, when the magazine is empty, held retracted by the cartridge follower 8 in a position slightly to the rear of that in which it is normally held by the sear 2, so that, when the magazine 9 is removed, the engagement of the sear with the bolt carrier 1 is ensured. As shown, the follower 8 has a rear projection 8a guided in a groove 10 in the magazine and adapted to engage the front of the carrier 1. Specification 241,574 is referred to.
