Abstract

572,547. Automatic guns. DOBREMYSL, J. Jan. 25, 1940, No. 7956/41. Divided out of 572,536. [Class 92 (ii)] Relates to belt-fed automatic guns having a transversely sliding breech-block co-operating with a breech-block carrier sliding longitudinally in the gun. According to the invention, a device for moving the cartridges from the belt into the chamber and for returning the empty cartridges into the belt is provided with a carriage actuated by a lever pivoted to the breech-block carrier and having one arm engaging the carriage and the other arm forked to engage with abutments. The invention is shown applied to a short - recoil gun with a transversely-sliding breech-block 2 operated by a cam groove 5 in a carrier 6 as described in Specification 572,536. On short recoil of the barrel 1, the breech-block is lowered when the carrier receives a rearward kick by an accelerating lever, and the arm a of a forked lever 11 on the carrier engages a fixed abutment 12 to operate a carriage 7 to extract the cartridge case 10 from the chamber and restore it to the clip 16 of the belt from which the live cartridge was pushed. The extractor 8 then engages an abutment 23 to release the case from the carriage. The belt is fed by slide 21 during the return of the barrel and when the carrier returns the arm b of the lever 11 engages a pivoted abutment 14 to push the fresh cartridge from the belt into the chamber. The cartridges are guided on rails 20 fast with the barrel.
