398,081. Automatic guns. AKTIEBOLAGET BOFORS, Bofors, Sweden. Jan. 9, 1933, No. 741.. Convention date, Jan. 12, 1932. [Classes 92 (i) and 92 (ii).] Relates to cartridge feeding and ramming devices of the kind in which the cartridges are fed from an overhead magazine x on to a loading-tray 5 from which they are automatically inserted in the breech of the gun by a rammer 12. According to the invention, the cartridges are supported at the base of the magazine on two star-shaped rollers 18, the lower sides of which together with the loading- tray form a cylindrical guide for the cartridge to be rammed. The rollers may be movable laterally against spring action to allow the cartridges to pass between them. The cartridges are fed downwardly in the magazine by spring- controlled pawls 21 mounted on slides reciprocated vertically by arms 24 engaging cam grooves in the loading tray which moves with the gun during recoil. Similar pawls 20 retain the cartridges against upward movement. During run-out, the piston member 11 of a spring rammer 12 is retained by a catch 14 released through a lever 15 by a projection 16 on the loading tray when the gun reaches its forward loading position. The ramming head 12 is in the form of two pivoted arms which slide in cam grooves in the loading tray so as to open in the rear position to permit the cartridge case to be ejected.
