Abstract

649,519. Automatic shot-guns. SOC. ITALIANA E. BREDA PER COSTRUZIONI MECCANICHE. May 5, 1947, No. 12015. Convention date, May 4, 1946. [Class 119] An automatic shot gun of the long barrelrecoil type has its breech-block 7 locked, when in the breech closing position, by a block 9 which slides in guides in the breech-block and is slidable also with respect to a locking bolt along other guides which are inclined with respect to the first-mentioned guides. As shown in Figs. 2 and 5 the locking bolt 8, which is slidable on the breech-block 7, has an inclined projection 10 which slides in an inclined groove in the block 9. The latter serves to lock the breech-block 7 by engaging, when lifted, in a recess in the barrel extension 2. The bolt 8 carries also the firing pin 13, a hinged extension 15 acted upon by a spring 16 in the butt, and a spring-controlled nose 17 which when the rod 15 is in its most inclined position shown in Fig. 2 is lifted by a lever 151 to a locking engagement with the breech-block thus holding the bolt 8 in the retracted position. The bolt 8 carries also a hook 18 for the initial cocking. Firing and cartridge-feed mechanisms. Cartridges from a longitudinal magazine disposed beneath the barrel are fed rearwardly to a carrier 22 which rocks about a pivot 23 to raise the cartridges into a position for loading. The carrier has two rearward extensions, one carrying an operating spring 29 and the other having pivoted to it a spring-controlled hook 25 which holds the breech-block in its retracted position. The firing hammer 31 is pivoted at 30 and is acted upon by a leaf spring 45 when released by the trigger 34. Levers 37, 40, Fig. 12, pivoting about vertical axis, co-operate with the cartridges and with the carrier 22 to hold and release them at the appropriate times and to prevent double loading. A safety lever 44 is provided for the trigger. Operation. In Fig. 2 the parts are in the recoiled position after a shot has been fired; the block 9 is still in the raised locking position and the bolt 8 is held by the hook 25. The barrel now moves forwards under the action of its return spring, which surrounds the magazine, such movement dragging the breech-block 7 a sufficient distance to unlock the block. As the barrel moves forwards claws on the breech-block extract the spent case, and as the barrel reaches its forward position the extension 2 causes lever 40, Fig. 12, to release a cartridge. The latter in moving on to the carrier displaces to one side the lever 37 thus releasing the carrier which, by spring 29 now lifts the cartridge to the loading position. This movement of the carrier lowers the hook 25 thus releasing the breech-block which is now moved by spring 16 to the closed position, forcing the cartridge into the barrel. The rod 15 is not now inclined and the lever 151 and nose 17 are actuated to release the bolt 8 so that it can now move with respect to the breech-block to raise the block 9 to the locking position.
