Abstract

515,246. Automatic guns, BIRKIGT, M. March 2, 1938, No. 6623. Convention date, Feb. 11. [Class 92 (ii)] Relates to automatic guns in which the breech-block 6 is locked in closed position by a pivoted catch 7 and retained in open position by a sear 14, and consists in providing a retaining notch 18 on the catch 7 for engagement with the sear. By this means the notch is formed in a readily replaceable hardened member. The invention is shown applied to an aircraft gun in which the firing pin and breech - block are pressed forwardly by a common spring 5, the catch 7 being released from a fixed abutment on firing and then serving to lock the firing pin to the breech - block until the latter is again locked. The sear is released by a cable device 17.
