[Classes 92 (ii) and 119.] Relates to trigger mechanism of the kind comprising a sear 23 pivoted at 22, a trigger 15 pivoted at 16, a trip-lever 3 pivoted at 29 on the trigger and co-operating with the sear 23, and manually operated controlling means allowing firing of single rounds or automatic firing of a succession of rounds, and also serving to secure the breech-bolt in the safe position. According to the invention, the controlling means is in the form of a longitudinally movable slide 31 provided with a finger-piece 1 for manual operation. When the slide is in the central position shown, a pull of the trigger first depresses the sear, then releases it from the trip-lever by a deflection imparted to the trip-lever by the tail end 2 of the slide ; this results in a single round only being fired. For firing a succession of rounds automatically, the slide is shifted to its extreme forward position when the tail end 2 is out of reach of the triplever 3, so that the sear remains depressed so long as the trigger is pulled. For safety, the slide is shifted to its extreme rearward position where a lug 8 thereon comes under a shoulder 9 of the sear and prevents its depression ; simultaneously a pin 13 is wedged up by the slope 12 of the slide 31 into a notch in the breech-bolt if this is in the closed position ; so that, if the breech-bolt is in the closed position it is locked by the pin 13, and if in the cocked position it is locked by the sear's being held up by the lug 8. The pin 13 is controlled by a spring 14 and serves also to hold the slide 31 resiliently in its several positions by engagement with recesses 6, 7, 11 in the slide.
