Abstract

1,031,985. Cocking handles for firearms. F. WALTHER. March 21, 1963 [March 23, 1962], No. 11325/63. Heading F3C. In an automatic or semi-automatic firearm having a reciprocating breechblock, the cooking handle is optionally linkable with the breechblock so that during automatic or semi-automatic fire, the cocking handle is disconnected from the breechblock but connection is established for initially cocking the firearm and for reciprocating the breechblock for removal of dirt and for remedying ejection and loading faults. In one form, the cocking handle 3 may be depressed against the action of a spring 5 to cause a pin 2 to engage in a trough 10 in the front part of the breechblock 9. The handle 3 and associated slide 6 are normally held in the forward position against a stop 8 by a spring 7. The handle 3 may also be rotated so that a projection on the pin 2 engages in a recess in the cocking slide 6 to retain it in the engaged position with the breechblock. In another embodiment, the handle 3 and pin 2 are depressed by turning on a coarse-pitch screw-thread. In further embodiments, Figs. 5, 6 (not shown), a lever is pivoted to engage the breechblock and a levercam arrangement is arranged to depress a pin into engagement with the breechblock.
