Abstract

164,737. Berthier, A. V. P. M. Nov. 20, 1918, [Convention date]. Machine guns.-A gas-operated gun is adapted for single loading by providing a second sear or spring detent to hold the gas-piston at will in the rear position. In the construction shown, the firing-sear 21 is adapted to engage the cocking-lug 19 and hold the piston in a slightly retracted position, and a second sear 28, Fig. 5, pivoted in the side of the breech-body, is adapted to hold the piston in its fully retracted position. The sear 28 is operated by a knob 36 at its rear end, and is adapted to be put out of action by a lever 37 engaging a bevelled tail 54.
