Abstract

631,038. Automatic firearms. ZBROJOVKA BRNO, NARODNI PODNIK, and KYNCL, J. July 15, 1947, No. 18881. Convention date, July 15, 1946. [Class 119] An automatic firearm has, in combination (a) a breech-block mechanism in which the breech block moves back a short distance v before becoming positively locked and in which a breech-block carrier is accelerated, together with the breech block through the distance v by the pressure of gases acting against the base of the cartridge ; and (b) grooves in the walls of the cartridge chamber to enable propellant gases to reach the external surface of the cartridge case of the discharged round. In the construction shown the breech block 3 and its carrier 5 recoil through the distance v together when a shot is fired, the breech block then becoming positively locked by a fixed support 6 while the carrier continues rearwards against the action of the spring 8. Release of the breech block is eventually effected by the engagement of noses 10, 11 on it and the carrier respectively. Firing is effected by the action of a hammer 7 on the firing pin 4 whose rear end projects through a hole in a part of the carrier. The propellant gases reach the external surface of the cartridge case by way of grooves 9 in the cartridge chamber. The clearance v may be regulated by a suitable choice of the breech block or support 6, by axially adjusting the barrel, or by transversely moving the support when this is wedge-shaped. The support may alternatively move through the distance v against the pressure of a spring acting on the support, or the breech block may bear on a narrow flat spring projecting from the locking surface of the support. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers also to the grooving of the cartridge case. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
