621,417. Pneumatic guns. LAWRENCE, A., and LASZLO, S. E. Feb. 13, 1947, No. 4221. Convention date, Feb. 28, 1946. [Class 119] In a pneumatic gun of the type in which the barrel is mounted inside the barrel housing, the piston sweeping the space between the barrel housing and the barrel itself, cocking of the gun is effected by pivoting the barrel housing at its forward end so that the piston is moved forwardly by a lever to compress the operating spring. Referring to Fig. 1 and 2, pivoting of the barrel chamber 22 containing the barrel 20 about the pivot 14 at the forward end of the frame causes the piston 26 to be drawn forward by means of a lever 88 which is pivoted at its lower end at the pin 90 and at its upper to a hook member 80 sliding in a groove 82 in the barrel. This hook member engages a forwardly extending sleeve 28 attached to the piston head proper 26. A spring 32 mounted forwardly of the piston is thereby compressed until the piston head 26 is engaged by the nose of the spring-loaded sear 57, this sear forming part of the trigger mechanism of Specification 621,463. The construction of the lever and hook is such that the point of engagement of the hook and the lever pivots are maintained substantially in line during the cocking movement, as in Specification 621,461. Locking of the barrel chamber to the frame when in position for firing is effected by means of a hook 66, Fig. 3, carried on the barrel chamber engaging in two loosely interconnected tongues 100 and 100a (hidden by 100), sliding on pins 90 and 67, these tongues being released by a button (not shown). The breech mechanism forms the subject of Specification 621,462.
