Abstract

631,797. Air-guns. KAPSA, L. V. March 8, 1946, No. 7252. Convention date, Aug. 25, 1945. [Class 119] In an air-gun having a compression cylinder surrounding the barrel 1 and a piston 8 slidably mounted on the barrel 1 in the cylinder, pellets being fed from a magazine into the barrel by a pusher 10, the pusher is so shaped that with the rear of the barrel it forms an outlet from the compression cylinder to the barrel which is an annular divergent channel 11, the cross-sectional area of which can be varied by adjustment of the barrel. The muzzle end 2 of the barrel 1 of an air-gun of pistol shape is externally threaded to screw into the body 4 which forms the compression cylinder. The free end of the barrel is supported in the head 9 of the piston 8. The channel 11 between the tip of the pusher 10 and the free end of the barrel can be varied by rotation of the barrel by the screwed muzzle end 2. A cocking lever 12 linked to the body is secured to the lock 5 by a spring-loaded catch 13. Pivoted to the lever 12 is a rod 14 having an enlarged end 15 embracing the body and pivoted to struts 16 guided in slots in the body 4 and engaging with a flange on the piston 8 to push the piston against the action of its spring 17 during the cocking operation until a sear 19 engages with a collar 18 on the piston. A leather collar 20 is fastened by a cap 21 to the piston head 9 and in the forward position abuts against an elastic buffer 22 on the lock 5. The sear 19 has its free end engaging in a safety-catch 24. On pulling the trigger 25 a tensioning member 26 is projected against the catch 19 to release the piston 8 and set the weapon in operation. The pusher 10 is screwed into a carrier 27 mounted on rods 28 supported in a double bearing 29. Threaded on the rods 28 are springs 30 controlling the recoil movement of the pusher 10, which is brought about by tongues 31 on the free ends of the rod 28 engaging with a flange on the piston 8. A locking lever 32 is provided at one side of the bearing 29. Various modifications of the barrel, cocking lever and arrangement of the pusher are described. The cocking lever may be extended forwardly and terminated in a handle constructed as a silencer. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the subject-matter of Specification 631,862 and modifications of the trigger mechanism shown in Figs. 16 and 17 (Cancelled). In the first modification, a link 41 pivoted on the trigger 42 passes through the sear and has an inclined surface 44 which brings the sear 40 out of engagement with the piston. In the second modification, a pushing link 41, journalled to the trigger 42, is inserted in a forked sear 40 and has a lug acting on an inclined surface 44 of the sear to disengage it from the piston. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
